Colonial Yacht Club, Colonial Beach, VA, was formed in October, 1973. The Town is located on the Potomac River about 40 miles north of Pt. Lookout and 65 miles south of Washington, D.C. The Colonial Beach Yacht Center is a full-service marina at the mouth of Monroe Bay and is home to many of the Club's members. CYC members also tie-up at Parker's Marina, Winkie Doodle Point Marina, Nightingale Motel and Marina and Stanford's Marine Railway - all in Monroe Bay; and Harbor view Marina in Mattox Creek. The Club kicks off its boating season with an annual Flag-Raising ceremony at the Point the second Saturday in May. The Club participates in the Town's annual Potomac River Festival in June with a marching contingent and float, and sponsors the annual Boat Parade that same weekend. A lighted boat parade, started in 1999, has become a traditional event the first Saturday in December and is held in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce's "Santa Weekend." The Club schedules four to five cruises up and down the Potomac as well hold cookouts and dinner-meetings at various locations in the area. The Colonial Beach Yacht Center and Yacht Club members suffered two devastating losses which included a consuming fire in April 2002 and Hurricane Isabel in September 2003. Fifty-five boats were destroyed in the fire (22 belonging to Club members) and the Marina and Dockside Restaurant were virtually out of business due to Isabel. But, not for long! The Marina and restaurant are up and running and the Town itself -- with restaurants on the Bay and river -- is refurbished. A new restaurant on the boardwalk and the famous "Riverboat on the Potomac" off-track betting parlor and restaurant are being reconstructed. Colonial Beach is also a golf cart community and carts can be rented by boaters. E-mail:
